La delegada de la Profeco, Patricia Valadez Bustamante, aseguró que los refrescos son el producto de mayor consumo entre la población mexicana, después de las tortillas de maíz y la leche pasteurizada.
Afirmó que la erogación mensual por la adquisición de líquidos endulzados llega a más de 500 pesos.
Este es un problema que incide en la nutrición y en la salud misma de los consumidores, pero lo más delicado es que hay marcas de refresco que no declaran todo lo que contiene el producto, que es lo que los hace no recomendables por ser dañinos para la salud, indicó.
En declaraciones a Hidrocalidodigital y luego de señalar que siempre será más saludable y recomendable el consumo de agua natural o bien la que se prepara en casa con frutas de temporada, la funcionaria federal dijo que se debe saber por los consumidores que un refresco de cola normal contiene 63 gramos de azúcar, de manera que su ingesta se convierte con el tiempo en un detonador de la diabetes mellitus.
Mencionó que un estudio reciente realizado por la dependencia federal sobre el contenido de los refrescos de cola, que son los de mayor consumo entre la población, confirmó que éstos están elaborados en gran medida a base de azúcar.
Una cucharada de azúcar equivale a seis gramos y 24 calorías, de manera que si un refresco de cola contiene 63 gramos, significa que se están consumiendo de 10 a 12 cucharadas soperas de azúcar de 5.24 gramos cada una, explicó.
Valadez Bustamante advirtió que el elevado consumo de calorías combinado con el sedentarismo o el poco ejercicio físico, puede ser factor de riesgo para desarrollar enfermedades delicadas como la diabetes, así como ocasionar alteraciones en el volumen gástrico porque el gas se expande, de acuerdo a lo que manejan los especialistas médicos.
Ante ello y para hacer que se cumpla con las disposiciones oficiales respecto a la información a los consumidores, de oficinas centrales se ordenó que se verifique desde las plantas refresqueras que todo el refresco presente el contenido del mismo.
La delegada de la Profeco subrayó que de acuerdo a un estudio realizado sobre los productos de mayor consumo entre la población mexicana, se comprobó que el refresco es uno de los que tienen mayor demanda a nivel nacional.
Señaló que tan es así que incluso se sabe por el estudio de referencia, que en el 60 por ciento de los hogares mexicanos se consumen refrescos de cola y de sabores, siendo de hecho el tercer producto de mayor consumo y gasto entre la población, sólo por debajo de las tortillas y la leche.
La delegada expuso, a manera de recomendación, que el refresco no debe sustituir de ninguna manera a la leche, principalmente en el caso de los infantes, ni el consumo de agua natural en la mayoría de la población, toda vez que el organismo requiere hidratarse con el agua.
La funcionaria federal indicó por último que de acuerdo a datos del INEGI, obtenidos de la Encuesta Nacional de Ingresos y Gastos de los Hogares 2010, en el 60 por ciento de las viviendas mexicanas, es decir, que en cada uno de los 17.7 millones de hogares, se gastan trimestralmente, en promedio, 519 pesos en la compra de bebidas gaseosas, lo que representa un gasto de 4.04% en alimentos y bebidas.
