¿Cómo enseñar a utilizar el Sistema Mexicano de Alimentos Equivalentes a los pacientes?

1. Realiza el Recordatorio de 24 horas de tu paciente.

2. Explica a tu paciente en qué consisten los grupos de alimentos:

Frutas
Verduras
Cereales (con y sin grasa)
Leguminosas
Origen animal (alto, moderado, bajo y muy bajo aporte de grasa)
Leche
Grasa
Azúcar (con y sin grasa)

3.Pídele que categorice los alimentos de su recordatorio de 24 horas dentro de los grupos que acabas de repasar con él.

En el proceso explícale cuantas porciones representan los alimentos que consumió.

Ej.: Desayuno:
Frijoles 1 plato grande: Leguminosas, 2 equivalentes.
Huevo cocido: AOA moderado aporte de grasa, 1 equivalente.
3 tortillas: Cereales sin grasa, 3 equivalentes.
1 manzana: Frutas, 1 Equivalente.

4. Realiza este ejercicio en cada consulta, en la 4ª sesión pídele que lo haga solo.

Mantén una actitud entusiasta y dinámica, el paciente no debe sentirse en un examen o presionado, en caso de que requiera más información o tenga dudas ayúdalo solo en caso de que él lo solicite.

Efectuando estas sesiones de práctica en cada consulta tu paciente en poco tiempo dominará el uso del sistema de equivalentes.
